Psychological Therapy for PTSD
If you are looking for psychological support for PTSD, please be minded that there are numerous private counsellors who claim they can work with trauma but who lack the specific training and skills to resolve PTSD.
It’s best to choose a professional from a small number of trusted accrediting organisations (e.g. the BABCP in the UK and Ireland, or the EMDR association).
For all current UK national NICE guidance, see https://www.nice.org.uk.
For the APA’s guidance in the USA, see https://www.apa.org/ptsd-guideline/treatments
IES-R brief questionnaire to assess for PTSD symptoms
A suggestion is to not use ‘Better Help’, the BACP, UKCP or other counselling providers or organisations which do not hold equivalent standards as BABCP and may not provide therapists with adequate training in evidence-based interventions.
